Launching their current line-up in mid-2015, Brisbane post-rock quintet The Wisher & The Well have been busy working behind-the-scenes on some exciting new releases.

Inspired by boundary pushing artists like I The Mighty, Artifex Pereo and PVRIS, The Wisher & The Well are carving out their own sound, releasing their debut single Breathe earlier this year.

Breathe is a testament to how far the band have come. Following some line-up changes, drummer Jonathan Shay says Breathe inspired a change of direction for the band which saw them restructure their approach to song-writing and production. Charting the collapse of a long-term relationship, the song is an honest account many will relate to.

Breathe is about waiting for someone to change without knowing whether that change will come at all. It’s a reminder to just breathe when life gets tough – to take a step back and rethink where you’re heading,” said Jonathan.

The single is the first cut from the band’s upcoming EP Vital Signs, which is due for release at the end of this month. The record is a transition between an older iteration of The Wisher & The Well and their new sound.

Vital Signs is a tribute to the old and the new; the past and the future. We’re giving listeners a very personal insight into who we are now as people, but mixing it with just a little bit of who we were.”

“It’s definitely emotional – but in a very real sense. Nothing is overstated; nothing is intensely melodramatic. I think everyone who listens will be able to find a small part of themselves in there.”

Fans are in for some precursory treats before the EP drops on 29 May. The band are releasing their track [Un]broken to those who pre-order the record, and a music video for Breathe is also on its way.

To celebrate the release of Vital Signs, The Wisher & The Well will be playing Carousel Promotions debut show at the New Globe Theatre on Sunday, 29 May. Jonathan says they’re looking forward to unveiling their new tunes and giving the show everything they’ve got.

“We cannot explain how appreciative we are of the people who take the time to come and see us play live. The least we can do to repay them is to put as much effort into playing our music as we have spent creating it.”
