Electronic-pop songstress Georgia Mae is one of Brisbane’s fastest rising stars. Since launching her solo project in 2015, she’s had her songs played on Triple J, been a nominee at this year’s Queensland Music Awards and had her music featured at Cannes Film Festival.
On top of her accolades as a singer-songwriter, Georgia also has a degree in music technology under her belt, making her a qualified sound engineer and producer – an impressive resumé for someone who is only 22 years old. While she’s grateful for the success she’s enjoyed so far, she says continuing to make music she can be proud of is what’s important.
“Measuring success is something I’ve put some thought into over the years; over-analysing, judging and comparing can lead to a lot of dissatisfaction, no matter the achievement. Acknowledging that I put 100 per cent into everything I do is where I find satisfaction,” she said.
Georgia’s commitment to her craft shines through on her latest single Time With You – a nostalgic tune about reflecting on time spent with someone you love. It’s a preview of what’s to come on her upcoming EP which she’s currently working on with co-producer Steve Thornely.
“I’m excited about releasing a body of work, rather than just another single – I feel I have a little more room to say something meaningful with an EP, both musically and lyrically.”
Inspired by artists from around the world, travel experiences, people she loves and people who intrigue her, Georgia says the EP will be a nice combination of vibes, vocals and innovation.
“I hope to create something that will embody where I’m going with my own version of pop – something listeners can relate to and feel inspired by.”
Having just signed to 123 Agency for live bookings, and with an EP on the way, 2016 is set to be the year listeners (if they haven’t already) fall in love with Georgia Mae.
“This year I just want to continue doing everything I love. I want to create music that stays relevant for years to come.”
