Blowing like a cool breeze on a fine day is the sweet, sweet sound of Hussy Hicks’ latest release, Mountain Peak.

Announced today as finalists in five categories for the Gold Coast Music Awards, the blues-roots duo have been impressing fans and industry tastemakers alike for years. Now, their latest single sees them embrace the spirit of adventure, something we could all use a dash of at present.

Mountain Peak is a road trip song – it’s all about shaking off the dust of everyday routine and throwing yourself headfirst into a new adventure,” said vocalist Leesa Gentz.

“I wrote the song about that feeling of excitement that comes with taking on the unknown, it’s something that we’ve experienced a lot in our chosen lives as touring musicians – grabbing your bag and your guitar and taking off to somewhere you’ve never been and facing a completely new set of circumstances – it really does ‘Shake off the lazy’ as the chorus lyric says.”

While you may not be able to jump in the car drive out of town right now, you can certainly channel the freedom of the open road by listening to Hussy Hicks’ Mountain Peak today.

Standing in solidarity with their beloved local music community, Hussy Hicks are paying it forward with compliments to Minnie Marks, Tijuana Cartel and Emily WurramaraSee what kind words they have for these great artists below, and stream all their music in our >>> A Song A Day For Solidarity Spotify Playlist <<<

SOLIDARITY THROUGH SONG: ‘LOCAL ARTISTS WE'RE LOVING’ BY HUSSY HICKS

Minnie Marks

Minnie Marks | Song: Golden Food and Amber Fuel

We’re huge fans of Minnie Marks and have been since she turned up to a gig of ours when she was 14.  So much talent, amazing guitarist and fantastic songwriter. This song about Beer and Chips takes us to the road.

Tijuana Cartel

Tijuana Cartel | Song: Holiday in Bagdad live at the Hotel Brunswick

We’ve been bouncing around the festival circuit with these dead set champions and fellow Gold Coasters for the past decade. Its always fun. I chose a live track of theirs because that is our connection.

Emily Wurramara

Emily Wurramara | Song: Black Smoke

Emily Wurramara is not only one of the most gifted and true artists we’ve found in the past few years but also a fantastic human full stop. What a voice!

‘A SONG A DAY FOR SOLIDARITY’ PLAYLIST

A Song A Day For Solidarity is a series launched in response to the havoc COVID-19 is wreaking on our beloved music community. Every day until local venues re-open and gigs start flowing, we’ll be sharing a song by a local act to promote their work. These artists then ‘pay it forward’ giving shout outs to three other Queensland musicians they’re loving!
