Judy’s Place is back for 2016! Inspired by the folk music of Greenwich Village, Judy’s Place brings musicians and fans together in an intimate, lounge-room style setting for a laid-back night of music and story-telling at the University of Queensland’s Red Room.

The first show of the year kicks off on Wednesday, 6 April and features local blues-rock songstress Deena along with Jason Daniels and Oscar Pannifex. It’s a line-up organiser Steve Thornely says will make for a cracker of a night.

“We’re stoked to have Deena on board, high fives all round for her recent Queensland Music Awards successes! We’re also looking forward to having Jason Daniels who’s been absolutely smashing gigs this year, and Oscar Pannifex who’s an extremely talented UQ local,” he said.

Judy’s Place aims to foster even more love for the local music scene, whilst providing a valuable experience for artists. As a part of this vision, they’ve introduced a “feature artist” slot for the act who plays before the headliner, where they film a live video of the artist’s latest single that can then be shared online and used to pitch their next show.

Steve says Judy’s Place is all about making those moments happen when you think to yourself “this is why I love this whole music thing” – when you’re sitting on a rug with your friends in awe of an artist’s story and grateful that you decided to head out on a school night.

“At the end of the day, we’re all mates and we just want to create great music. The artist’s we’ve had so far have been very keen to come back, which we’re very excited about because some are becoming pretty big names!”

So grab some friends, roll out a rug and settle in for a night of sweet tunes and story-telling at Judy’s Place on Wednesday, 6 April.

Judy’s Place first gig for 2016 is on Wednesday, 6 April from 6-9PM at the Red Room, University of Queensland. FREE ENTRY. All event details here.
