Calling all Queensland musicians! If you’d like a shot at taking home a gong at next year’s Queensland Music Awards (QMAs) but forgot to nominate, then you’re in luck because the nominations deadline has been extended to midnight Monday, 19 November. With an array of categories, and the prestigious Billy Thorpe Scholarship up for grabs, this really is a case of you’ve gotta be in it (aka nominate) to win it!

Produced by QMusic with support from APRA AMCOS, the QMAs recognise and support the calibre of musical talent being bred in the Sunshine State. With a long history of celebrating the worldwide achievement of household names like The Veronicas, Sheppard and DZ Deathrays, the QMAs also unearth new and emerging songwriters including The Jungle Giants, The Kite String Tangle and WAAX, all of whom were 2018 QMA winners.

Spanning 13 self-nominating categories including Pop, Rock, Blues/Roots, Country, Hip-Hop/Rap, Electronic/Dance, Heavy, Video, Schools and more, the hunt is on again for Queensland’s best music. Soloists and duos are also encouraged to nominate for the 2019 Billy Thorpe Scholarship which provides $10,000 to an emerging artist to receive career advice from Chugg Entertainment and record with an established producer. The scholarship is an invaluable career boost, as 2018 winner Greta Stanley attests.

“Being the recipient of the 2018 Billy Thorpe Scholarship has allowed me to create and soon release new music I otherwise would have been struggling to afford and manage to do successfully,” said Greta.

“Being nominated for a QMA gave me confidence and reassurance that my art is important and appreciated by industry professionals and listeners alike.”

Local legends Emma Louise, Tia Gostelow and Amy Shark are among a long-list of artists who credit the Queensland Music Awards for helping kickstart their careers in the industry. The next superstar the QMAs raises up could be YOU, so you know what to do… *nominate*!!!
