After a decade of making music together, Brisbane stalwarts We All Want To are sounding fresher than ever, unveiling the first morsel, Cotton, from their forthcoming record On The Dots which is due out 1 March.

Maintaining their signature, evocative indie sound, Cotton sees the band moving with typical agility over an atypical chord run and structure reminiscent of nostalgic summer days and whimsical memories.

“I wrote Cotton in England, thinking about those days where it seems like the summer will never end, and everything is dreamlike and beautiful, and above all nothing seems to matter,” said vocalist and guitarist, Tim Steward.

Tim’s trip to England stemmed from his 2015 Grant McLennan Fellowship win, where he spent a month song-writing overseas, songs which fans will get to hear on the band’s upcoming fourth record On The Dots.

“I was immersed in the whole feeling of being anonymous in a huge city (London). The small day to day details of life became what I wrote about, the really tiny details that usually don’t make it into songs – having a cup of tea, walking down the road feeling bored, things like that. As for Skye’s songs, she wrote hers while she was living alone in a caravan on the remote NSW South Coast, so they’re a bit more soul-searching and intense.”

“The songs on the record literally come from opposite ends of the earth.”

A bridge between the old and the new, Tim says Cotton is a sister track to Eileen Afternoon and The Deep End from the band’s last album, The Haze. It’s also one of the more “upbeat” songs fans will hear on On The Dots.

“This release has been a long time coming. We can’t wait to get back out and play our album launch shows and share what we’ve been working on.”

Like a fine wine that gets better with age, We All Want To’s latest single Cotton was well worth the wait – play it, savour it and share it with your mates!
