No need to hunt for one of Willy Wonka’s five Golden Tickets, because Brisbane psych-rockers, Timothy Learjet, are giving us all one of their own, satiating our sweet tooth’s with their scrumptious new single Chocolate, out 20 September.
Long-time mates sharing a mutual love for the psychedelic music scene, Timothy Learjet came to fruition in 2017. Now, after an eight-month hiatus the quartet are back heralding a refined fusion of funk-tinged psych-rock, evident in their tasty new song Chocolate.
“Chocolate is simply our wholesome tribute to the most flavoursome treat of all time,” said vocalist and guitarist, James Halstead. “As the first song we wrote and recorded, it really resonated with us after our hiatus and is a good indicator of sounds to come.”
Melting down an array of influences, from The Babe Rainbow, Willy Wonka and Cadbury to 1960s psychedelia, James says the band enjoyed putting their experimenter hats on and working together to self-produce the track.
“It was good to be able to take our time and make the song as colourful and playful as possible. We hope listeners can sit back and soak up our new sound, hopefully with their favourite chocolate bar in hand.”
Joking that they’d love to take a tour of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory for an accompanying Chocolate music video, the lively four-piece are currently hard at work cooking up their debut EP, which is due for release in 2020. A psychedelic dip into the musical fondue that’s yet to come, fans can make like Augustus Gloop and get an early taste of the record (without the consequences), when Timothy Learjet launch Chocolate at Brisbane’s at Heya Bar on 4 October.
“We’re so excited to be back and can’t wait to play our new set filled with fresh songs and playful energy alongside some great artists and people at our single launch. We’re also looking forward to spending more time writing, recording and producing our debut EP which we’re aiming to release early next year. You’re in for a treat!”
