With the release of her debut single You Got Me, out 28 January, Kiri Cooper aka Kirikatt, is well on the way to fulfilling her dream of putting Brisbane on the global R&B map.
Teaming up with New Zealand producer, Edyonthebeat (Donnell Lewis & Mikey Mayz), Kiri’s sound embraces the storytelling ideals of the late 1990s and early noughties R&B era, drawing inspiration from the likes of Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey and Kehlani.
A loose play-by-play of relatable experiences, You Got Me is a lyrical ode to knowing what you want in the uncertain world of modern dating.
“You Got Me is about reaching that crossroad where you’re in the “grey” area of either being a fling or something more long-lasting. It embraces the fun, seductive stage of cat-and-mouse dating – it’s vulnerable, it’s empowering, and it’s exciting,” said Kiri.
Kiri has locked in appearances at QLD Poetry Festival and Woodford Folk Festival this year, and with more new music on the way, she’s a rising R&B star to keep on your radar.
“I want Brisbane to know I’ll be serving the R&B goods to put us on the map. I want to make a statement that’s fun, sexy and relatable and I think You Got Me is a good first taste of that.”
