Dodging security guards at an abandoned Beenleigh shopping centre was all part of the fun filming Gold Coast rapper Jesswar’s new music video XTC.
Shot by Shutterstorm and taking just half an hour to film, XTC exudes an underground vibe set in an urban concrete jungle with cool graffiti. The song was inspired by Jesswar’s old party days and is all about changing your ways.
“XTC is about change – going from drugs and alcohol to a much cleaner life style. It’s about surviving the hard times, leaving drugs behind and becoming a much happier person,” said Jesswar.
“I wanted to push the message that partying and doing drugs is all fun and games until the party’s over and you have to pay the consequences. Whether it’s getting stuck in a trip or overdosing, there comes a time when you have to live life without substance abuse.”
XTC is the first cut from Jesswar’s upcoming sophomore EP Blue Roses x Red Violets, which she’s been working on with Tasmanian producer Disposition. She says the EP has a flume meets Lauryn Hill type vibe and is different from her previous releases.
With a renewed focus on pursuing her dreams, we hope we’ll see Jesswar sometime soon on our TV screens.
