While the world waits to hear news of who will become the next POTUS of the United States, Brisbane’s own vivacious pop darling Cheeky Velvet is celebrating the American football dream in her bold new music video Hickey.
In an epic throwback to Toni Basil’s Hey Mickey, Velvet’s Hickey features cheerleaders, footballers, flamingos, gridiron references and even a mango bra in a catchy package that channels some of pop’s biggest icons – Madonna, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.
“When I wrote Hickey I really wanted to recreate the cheerleader pop sound. I was inspired by tunes like Gwen Stefani’s Hollaback Girl, Avril Lavigne’s Girlfriend and of course Tony Basil’s Hey Mickey. So, for the video I thought why not pay homage to that style further and roll with the American football theme,” she said.
Known for her tongue-in-cheek tunes and colourful shows, Velvet is a creative powerhouse and she’s showing no signs of slowing down. She’ll be embarking on her first nationwide tour in January and even has a new record on the cards.
“I can’t wait to take my music to new places next year! On tour I’ll be playing the tunes everyone loves as well as trialling songs that are likely to be on the new record.”
“I absolutely love performing and I can’t wait to sink my teeth into 2017 with more new music. I definitely have a few things lined up that I’m super excited to share with everyone.”
