As the working week comes to an end, Brisbane blues-folk outfit Fugitive & The Vagabond are releasing their new single Talkin’ City Blues, which is fittingly, all about casting off the nine to five grind.

Talkin’ City Blues is about the expectations hoist upon us, and the stresses that come with those expectations,” said front man Jordan Merrick.

It’s the first track to be released from the band’s debut album Novella, which is due out later this year. Inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Neil Young and Jim Morrison, Jordan says Novella throws out the concept album format and instead presents a collection of musical short stories.

Talkin’ City Blues is one small aspect of what we feel is a lyrically diverse album. We wanted Novella to have a storytelling focus, and for each song to create vivid imagery for the listener.”

The band will be celebrating the release of Talkin’ City Blues with a string of shows throughout July and August. A second single from the album will also be released in the coming months.

If Fugitive & The Vagabond continue on their current trajectory, they may be giving up the nine to five grind sooner than they think!
