Doc Brown and Marty McFly may have travelled to 21 October, 2015, but anyone in the Brisbane rock scene knows the date they should have punched in is 12 December, 2015. Why you ask? Because on 12 December this year, local rockers Guards Of May are performing their debut album Future Eyes in full at The Foundry, and it’s Back To The Future (BTTF) themed!
The one-off show will top off an incredible year that has seen the band release their first album, debut at BIGSOUND, and tour the country with Dead Letter Circus. As massive fans of BTTF, lead singer Richie Harvey says the band were keen to roll with a BTTF theme for the show, when they realised how well the title of the movie franchise complemented the title of their album.
“We all grew up with BTTF movies and are massive fans. They are seminal classics and so while watching BTTF II at home recently, one of the guys came up with the name Back To The Future Eyes and we thought what a sweet theme idea for our last show of the year,” he said.
Aside from the cool theme, Richie says the band are looking forward to playing their album in full – something artists often don’t get the chance to do.
“We are all big advocates of listening to albums in their entirety; the way they are created and intended to be experienced. Lots of time and consideration goes into the flow and order of the tracks on an album, but this often gets lost with digitally purchased music and streaming services.”
The band have a few BTTF surprises up their sleeves for fans on the night, and are currently working hard on their costumes.
“We’re keeping our costumes a surprise for now, but there’s some serious time and money going into them! We encourage everyone to dress up as well!”
Whether you’re a diehard Back To The Future fan, or just love a good dose of rock music, The Foundry is the place to be on Saturday night, 12 December. Don’t wait for a time machine to be invented to take you back to this night if you miss it – book your tickets NOW!
PS: Costumes are highly encouraged but if you can’t rock a Marty McFly why not grab a Back To The Future t-shirt from K-Mart for $12. We did our research and those K-mart t-shirts exist!
