Focusing on all the obscure concoctions and derivatives of Brisbane’s underground pop, rock, and indie scene, local bookers Vincent & Jules are thrilled to launch their new genre series Cookies & Cream.
After realising Brisbane has a lack of genre-specific shows, the Vincent & Jules team have turned their attention to creating gigs that cater to particular styles within the local music scene.
“As artists ourselves, we noticed there were rarely any shows focusing on specific styles. Bands do their best to pick support acts that suit their genre, but what we want to do is bring a particular sub-section of the local music scene together every month under the one roof,” said organiser Christina Langham.
The Cookies & Cream series, which launches at The Backroom this Friday, 29 April, will see Mermaid Avenue, Chief Weapons, The Jumpkicks and SILKACID take to the stage for a show hotter than baked goods.
“What excites me about this line-up is that they all complement one another. Mermaid Avenue have a soft-rock, alt-country sound that tickles your ears while Chief Weapons create mesmerising, minimalist soundscapes. Then there’s punk rockers The Jumpkicks who along with garage-rock foursome SILKACID will get everybody moving.”
Vincent & Jules hope Cookies & Cream will become a staple in the calendar for the local pop, rock and indie community.
“For future shows, I hope Cookies & Cream bakes into a wonderfully rounded, crunchy and melt-in-your-mouth experience,” said organiser Amanda Terry.
