From beachside to couch side, the Gold Coast Music Awards (GCMAs) are pivoting with the COVID-19 times and bringing the 2020 Awards ceremony straight to your loungeroom, bedroom, balcony or wherever else you can tune in on your device to Facebook Live at 7PM on Thursday, 30 April.
Announcing 31 finalists spanning 10 categories, the Gold Coast music industry’s night of nights is fearlessly forging ahead to celebrate the City’s creative gold, a move sure to lift the spirits of countless community members who’ve been hit hard by the effects of the current pandemic.
Topping the list with five nominations are blues and roots festival favourites Hussy Hicks, while country music star Casey Barnes, cool indie kids, IVEY and folk streaming sensation, Hollow Coves all have multiple finalist spots each.
Also in the running are rising stars Baltimore Gun Club, Being Jane Lane, Ella Fence, Busby Marou, San Mei, Eliza and the Delusionals and more, with DVNA, Dennis. and Doolie going head to head for the inaugural, career-propelling Gold Coast Music Prize.
“The music scene on the coast is pumping and keeps on kicking. Despite the madness going on around the world right now, it’s comforting to see these awards forging ahead to recognise and celebrate artists when we need it most,” said Tom Busby of Busby Marou, nominated for Release and Artist of the Year.
Foregoing the flamethrowers and beachfront fanfare of previous years, Gold Coast Music Awards director, Samantha Morris said, “The music industry was one of the first to really feel the impact from the COVID-19 pandemic, and we were hit hard here on the Gold Coast. Our economy is largely driven by events.”
“While we can’t hold a big, face to face awards ceremony, we think it is really important to bring the community together, virtually at least, to acknowledge and celebrate the creative gold that continues to come out of this City.
“We’d love for everyone to tune in and watch the 2020 Gold Coast Music Awards together for an hour of support and solidarity from the comfort and safety of your couch!”
From beachside to couch side, ain’t nothing gonna break the GCMAs’ stride!
The sixth annual GCMAs will take place live via video on the Gold Coast Music Awards Facebook page at 7pm on Thursday, 30 April 2020, featuring special iso-loungeroom performances from some of the city’s finest talent. >>> RSVP HERE <<<
