Jade Mills can’t wait to share her music with the world. After spending a lot of time believing she wasn’t good enough, the indie songstress has found it in herself to trust her voice and pursue her passion for music.
“I cannot remember a time when I wasn’t singing. There is something so fluid about it, it’s like an extension of my emotions, I don’t know where one starts and the other ends,” she said.
“For so long I doubted myself. Then I realised that while there is always going to be someone better, it’s how you use what you’ve got that really matters.”
Jade says having her music and voice stir even the slightest emotion in listeners brings her great joy. The acoustic artist says she wants people to feel the way she feels when she’s in the middle of a song – lost, yet free.
Currently developing her sound and musical identity, Jade hopes to have a single or EP out by the end of this year. She’s inspired by musicians who are great storytellers, and takes influence from the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Thelma Plum, Stevie Nicks, Nina Nesbit and Winterbourne.
“I love listening to the way artists articulate a life experience through their songs. So I guess that’s what I am drawing from at the moment – stories of my own and those of the people around me.”
“Recurring themes would probably fall into either lost loves and careless lovers; I write about the things I don’t say out loud.”
Jade will be performing at Carousel Promotions’ Bands For Starlight Fundraiser this Saturday, 2 July. She feels honoured to be part of the evening, and says music is a fantastic way to increase awareness of the cause.
Full of positive vibes, Jade is happy to be doing what she loves.
“Every step towards achieving my goals is a highlight for me.”
